How to research scholarships

Why I spent 2+ months researching possible scholarships before my master's application abroad. How did it help?

An education loan for studying abroad can range from 10 lakhs to 50 lakhs Indian rupees and it can take you a minimum of 2 years to pay the interest depending on your income. If you invest the time into just two months of prior research, you can save up more than 2 years of worrying about your education loan.

The processing of an education loan can be tedious with lots of paperwork and frequent visits to the bank or loan agencies. The documentation required to process your master's application is simplified with just a few months of prior research on scholarships in your free time.

Being a scholarship holder, I just had to show a single piece of paper containing scholarship details to process my visa application. This has saved me both money and time.

Here's how you can research scholarships in different countries and different universities. Some ways to research ->

#01 Choosing your own university

Each university of your choice will have a finance page and a scholarships section. Note down each scholarship based on the eligibility and deadline. I did this on an Excel sheet. Let me know in the comment if you would like to know more.

#02 Finding Government Fund scholarships

In some countries like France and Germany, the government funds scholarships for international students. You can find scholarships on platforms such as Campus France, DAAD German Academic Exchange Service

#03 Joining Communties

Find people on LinkedIn who studied or are studying at your dream university. They usually mention if they received any scholarship on their LinkedIn page. I would use the search button on LinkedIn with relevant hashtags such as #scholarships names, and #university names.

#04 Reaching out to existing students

Reach out to students studying in your dream university abroad and ask them for scholarships they are aware of. I did this for each of my university applications and this provided me with more information than a Google search.

#05 Join social communities

Join Facebook or Discord communities for the specific country or university page. There are several posts regarding finance and scholarships in these communities.
